Melani, Nora (Bernabei)




Nora (Bernabei) Melani, of Cheswick, peacefully passed away Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at the age of 91, with her family by her side at Harmar Village. Nora was born Feb. 26, 1924, in Morgan, Pa., to the late Leo and Maria Corti Bernabie, and was lifelong resident of Indianola, Arnold and Cheswick. She was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a clerk typist working in Greentree and Tarentum after 42 years of service. Nora enjoyed going to Wheeling Casino with her husband, Rudy, and friends on the Jack Tady Band bus each month to listen to the music of the Jack Tady Bears Band. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. Surviving is her husband, Rudy, who was not only her 68-year love of her life but her loving caregiver. She also leaves behind her son, Dr. Kenneth (Tracy) Melani, of Fox Chapel; and daughter, Janet (Charles) Kish, of Cheswick. Nora is survived by her grandchildren, Christine (David) Racchini, Carrie (Simon) Pfister, Alyssa Melani and Sofia Melani; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Leo and Raymond Bernabie; and sisters, Lunda Furko, Evelyn Licata and Mary Kuczynski. A special thank you goes out to the wonderful in home caregivers Marlene, Ed and Linda, along with the compassionate care of Heritage Hospice, Dr. Peter Ellis and his staff, and everyone at Harmar Village. A special thank you to her neighbors Tom and Lori for allowing the use of their driveway many times each day to take Nora to her doctor's appointments. We thank the Lord for the woman God gave us, a caring and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. In peace Mom, you will forever be missed by all. Friends and relatives will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016 at BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016 at Mt. St. Peter Catholic Church, 100 Freeport Road, New Kensington, PA 15068, with Monsignor Michael Begolly officiating.
