Hastings, James N., Sr.




James N. Hastings Sr., 87, of Penn Hills passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016. He was the beloved husband for 61 years of Gail (Schindler) Hastings; loving father of Jim (Darlene) Hastings and Dan (Cheryl) Hastings; and grandfather of Jason, Corinne, Aaron, Cherie and William Hastings and John Hruska. Jim received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. Following graduation, he had more than 35 years of service with U.S. Steel as an engineer. He proudly served our country in the Navy during World War II and was a member of both East Liberty Presbyterian Church and Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, where he was active in the choir. Jim obtained a 7th degree black belt in Isshin-ryu Karate and was a two-time marathon finisher when he was in his 50s. Jim was also a life master in duplicate bridge. Friends and relatives are invited to a memorial service 11 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2016, at Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, 384 Fox Chapel Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15238.
