William M. "Bill" Johnston, 62, cherished and beloved husband of Rebecca Clawson Johnston, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016, after bravely fighting a two-year battle with ALS. Bill was born May 19, 1953, to William A. Jr. and Marilyn "Bing" Johnston. Bill's career at the University of Pittsburgh spanned 34 years. He held the position of graphic designer as well as most recently assistant manager of University Event Support, CIDDE. Bill was a sports car enthusiast, avid reader, boater and model railroader. He and his wife, Rebecca, enjoyed restoring their beautiful 1904 home in Bellevue. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William A. and Marilyn Johnston. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Rebecca; sisters, Beth (Bill) Moser and Pamela Johnston; sisters-in-law, Linda Clawson and Susan (Keith) Tucker; nieces, Cherri (Charles) Bollinger, Chandler (Jesse) Shank and Emily Farlow; nephews, Michael Bollinger and Jace "William" Shank; and lifelong friends, Blaine Walker and Barry Wareham. A memorial service celebrating Bill's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, at Wallace Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1146 Greentree Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15220. Arrangements were made by BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC. Oakmont.
