Lawrence, Margery (Hulings)

Margery Hulings Lawrence, 82, of Patterson Township, passed away on the evening of Thursday, July 14, 2016. Margery was a model of loving stewardship throughout her life. Born June 17, 1934, she grew up in Harmarville, along the Allegheny River, the youngest daughter of Richard and Alva Hulings. All of her extended family lived nearby and all of her childhood stories included her loving sisters and cousins, as well as friends with whom she maintained close ties. She graduated near the top of her class at Oakmont High School in 1951. Margery then attended Bethany College for a year before transferring to Carnegie Tech, now Carnegie-Mellon University, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in fashion and merchandising. After graduating college, Margery became a buyer in the fashion department of Joseph Horne Company. After that, Margery began working with Columbia Gas. She starred in a cooking show on WQED demonstrating to consumers how to cook with gas. After that, Margery held various positions of increasing responsibility with Columbia Gas finishing her career as director of marketing and division manager. Margery was also very active in her private life. She served as secretary and president of the board of directors of the Ohio Valley Hospital Foundation from 1996 to 2011, and served on the strategic planning committee. In 2001, she was appointed to serve on the patient advisory board of the Pennsylvania Medical Society. In that position she was responsible for representing patients' viewpoints on healthcare issues. She was a longtime member of the Women's Golf Association of Western Pennsylvania, a regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of Beaver Valley Country Club. She loved to play tennis and golf, shop for antiques, purses and watches and collect beautiful things. Her home was filled with treasures. She also loved spending time with her family and especially being an aunt to her nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. She is survived by her sisters, June Hulings Luciana (Joseph) and Virginia Hulings Hill (Thomas); nieces and nephews, Joseph Luciana III (Audrey), Richard Luciana (longtime friend, Patty Kasper), Jeffrey Luciana, Tamsen Hill Ercole (David), Victoria Hill, Tara Hill Conroy (Glenn) and Alex Hill; and grandnephews and nieces, Joey and Jeana Luciana, Brian, Rachel and Grace Yuhas, Alexandra, Spenser, Brodie and Harper Ercole and Bailey, Carter, Aleta and Chase Conroy. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 17, and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 18, at BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139.
