Age 96 of Penn Hills passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Saturday November 26, 2016. She was the only child of the late Francis Edward Burke and Clara Kingsbury Burke of Ogdensburg, New York. She was born in Ogdensburg and grew up in Forest Hills, Pennsylvania and graduated in 1939 from Wilkinsburg High School. Her first husband, Walter A. Kocher, was an airman who tragically died in a plane crash during WWII. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Howard Wessel and mother of their children, Kathleen Vause, Martha (Will) Demshar, and Charles B. Wessel (Bruce A. Johnston), grandmother of Timothy Vause, Judith (David) Eichner, Debra (Joseph) Varrati, and Nicole (James) Collier and beloved great grandmother of Lauren K. Eichner, Domenic and Anthony Varrati and Austin and Amanda Collier. She is survived by many cousins from the children of her Aunt “Sadie” Sarah Burke LeClair and husband Philip A. “Gus” LeClair of Heuvelton, New York and her Aunt Ruth Kingsbury Foster and husband Harold A. Foster of Ogdensburg, New York. The surviving cousins are from the families of the LeClair’s late children, Mary Kathleen “Kay” (Augustus “Gus”) Robson, Elizabeth “Betty” (Blair) Davis, Margaret “Peg” (Howard) Bill and John “Jack” (Pauline Kelsey) LeClair and Foster’s child the late Dorothy (George)Moore of Ogdensburg, New York. She worked as an administrative assistant for her father’s business, Burke’s Electrical Supply Company, and later at Stewart Warner Alemite, Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania. Her joy of life, her wicked sense of humor, her contagious laugh, her joy of song and her wisdom will be missed but greatly cherished by her family. Memorial contributions can be made to the Animal Rescue League, 6620 Hamilton Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15206 or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 333 East Carson St, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
