Haywood, Roy E.

Roy E. "Jay" Haywood, 95 of Penn Hills passed away on Monday, November 19, 2018. Beloved Husband for 55 years of the late Amelia L. "Millie" (Bruno). Loving Father of Carol (Donald) Pegnataro and the late Deborah Haywood McCloskey. Pop-Pop of Stephanie (Michael) Joyce and Donald Pegnataro. Great-Pop-Pop of Benjamin Joyce. Brother of the late Gail and Franklin Haywood. Roy proudly served our country during World War II in the Army and upon his return from Europe, attended the Art Institute. A natural athlete, he was a star player for the Dunlevy soccer team and later in life became an avid and accomplished golfer. After 38 years as a Greyhound bus driver, his love for driving continued for the rest of his life, taking him to the gym daily, countless nursing homes for visits, religious pilgrimages, golf tournaments, and family gatherings. He was a generous and devoted man, not only to the Catholic Church, but also to family, friends, and others in need. He had the ability to talk to anyone about anything and his humor always lit up the room. He touched the lives of everyone who knew him, and he will be greatly missed. Friends and relatives will be received on Friday, November 23, 2018 from 3-8 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC. 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont. Additional Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 10 a.m. until parting prayers at 10:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. St. Joseph Catholic Church, Verona. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 825 Second St. Verona, PA 15147
